Following a well-received performance during Ghana’s 69th Independence anniversary celebrations in Accra, Fiifi Coleman Productions is set to bring its stage production “I Told You So!” to Cape Coast.
The production, titled “I Told You So! — The Afahye Experience,” will be staged at the Centre for National Culture (CNC), Cape Coast, on September 4 and 5, with shows scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on both days.
The Cape Coast presentation is expected to introduce a wider audience to a contemporary adaptation of one of Ghana’s classic stories, combining theatre, music, dance, comedy and social commentary.
Originally created as a film in the 1970s by the late Bob Cole, I Told You So has been reworked by Fiifi Coleman for modern audiences while preserving the central messages and moral questions explored in the original story.
The production examines issues surrounding relationships, marriage, family expectations, social responsibility and the changing relationship between tradition and modern lifestyles.
Its performance during the Independence anniversary celebrations in Accra helped highlight the cultural importance of the story, encouraging audiences to reflect on values Ghanaian society continues to embrace.
According to Fiifi Coleman, the decision to take the production to Cape Coast was influenced by the strong response it received in Accra and the city’s cultural significance during the Afahye season.
“The response to I Told You So! in Accra was overwhelming, and we felt it was important to share the experience with audiences beyond the capital. Cape Coast, especially during the Afahye season, provides the perfect setting to celebrate our culture through theatre,” he said.
The upcoming shows are expected to offer patrons an opportunity to experience Ghanaian storytelling while celebrating the country’s artistic heritage.
