NEIP CEO Unveils Bold Plan to Let Students Do National Service Through Their Own Business

Accra, October 8—The CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Eric Adjei, has announced a new model that will allow young entrepreneurs to complete their national service by running their own businesses.

Speaking at the Ghana Converge Summit 2026 at Fiesta Royale, Mr. Adjei said the initiative will target students across the country, with 15 students selected per school to receive grants to start and grow their enterprises.

Under the plan, beneficiaries will not be posted to traditional workplaces for national service. Instead, they will serve by building their ventures, a move he said will make entrepreneurship a real career path rather than a side hustle.

“We want to catch them early and give them capital and support to build,” he told participants at the summit, which brought together business leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs under the theme “Sustainable Commerce & Navigating the Future of Enterprise.”

Mr. Adjei also revealed a partnership with the Venture Capital Trust Fund through a new MOU to expand financing for young businesses and urged Ghanaian youth to look beyond government jobs toward enterprise creation.

The Ghana Converge Summit 2026 was held to connect business leaders, professionals, and policymakers to discuss innovation and sustainable economic growth in Ghana.
