Central Regional Minister Orders Cape Coast MCE to Provide Water Solution for Bassakrom Basic School

The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Eduamoah Ekow Okyere Panyin, has directed the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. George Justice Arthur, to within two weeks conduct a feasibility study and prepare a budget for the construction of a mechanised borehole for the Bassakrom Basic School.

The directive is aimed at providing the school with access to potable drinking water and improving the general conditions under which pupils and teachers operate.

The Regional Minister gave the directive when he joined the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, and the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Hon. Dr. Kwamina Mintah Nyarko, to commission a newly constructed three-unit classroom block at Bassakrom Basic School.

The facility includes a Headmaster’s office and a teachers’ common room, providing additional infrastructure to support teaching and learning in the community.

Hon. Eduamoah Ekow Okyere Panyin, after being informed about the school’s lack of a reliable source of potable water, instructed the MCE to take immediate steps to address the challenge.

He directed the Assembly to undertake a feasibility study to determine the appropriate location and technical requirements for the mechanised borehole and subsequently submit a budget for its construction within two weeks.

The intervention, he said, would help improve the learning environment and address one of the basic needs of the school community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Hon. Dr. Kwamina Mintah Nyarko, said the project formed part of efforts to fulfil a promise he made to communities within the constituency that lacked adequate educational infrastructure.

According to him, communities without school facilities would receive the necessary support to ensure that children have access to education within their communities.

He said the commissioning of the three-unit classroom block was therefore an important step towards improving educational infrastructure in Bassakrom.

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, also assured the school and the community that the Assembly would continue to support the development of Bassakrom Basic School.

He stated that the Assembly would make every effort to provide whatever the school needs to grow and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The commissioning of the new classroom block is expected to ease pressure on existing facilities and provide pupils and teachers with a more suitable environment for academic activities.

Residents and stakeholders in the community have welcomed the development, particularly the directive to address the school’s potable water challenge.
