MTN Ghana has dismissed the claims made by Clydestone Ghana PLC in a lawsuit over the development of its mobile money platform, saying it will vigorously defend the case in court.
In a regulatory filing submitted to the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on July 30, 2026, Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana, confirmed it had been served with the writ of summons and statement of claim filed by Clydestone at the Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra.
The legal action also names MTN Group Limited and Mobile Money Fintech LTD as defendants and relates to work Clydestone says it carried out in connection with the launch of mobile money services in Ghana nearly two decades ago.
Responding to the lawsuit, MTN Ghana said it does not accept the allegations contained in the claim and considers them to be without merit.
The company added that it intends to contest the proceedings in full but will not comment further on the substance of the case while it remains before the court.
MTN also assured customers, investors and other stakeholders that the legal proceedings have no impact on its business operations, financial performance or the Mobile Money services operated by Mobile Money Fintech LTD.
The telecommunications company said it would continue to comply with its disclosure obligations under the Ghana Stock Exchange’s Listing Rules and would update the market should there be any material developments.
The statement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Scancom PLC, Stephen Blewett.
Clydestone Ghana PLC filed the suit on July 27, 2026, alleging that intellectual property it developed during a 2007 engagement for a proposed mobile money project was later used without authorisation or compensation. The company is seeking declarations, damages and other reliefs from the court.
The case is yet to be determined by the High Court.
