CAPE COAST — The Convener of Fantefest and founder of the Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation, Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker, has built and unveiled a statue in honour of the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Council and Member of the Council of State, Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II.
The statue was unveiled today at the Petrol Roundabout in Cape Coast as a tribute to the Omanhen’s leadership, humility and contribution to the development of Oguaa and the Central Region.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker explained that the gesture was intended to recognise the exemplary leadership and humility demonstrated by Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II during his reign.
According to Lawyer Walker, he would not wait until the Omanhen passes away before acknowledging and celebrating his achievements as the Paramount Chief of Oguaa.
He said the statue was his way of showing appreciation and honouring Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II while he is alive and actively contributing to the development of the traditional area.
Lawyer Walker, who is also the founder of the Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation, said the initiative formed part of his commitment to recognising outstanding leadership and empowering the youth and communities.
He described Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II as a leader whose humility and leadership qualities deserve recognition and celebration.
In his response, Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II expressed his gratitude to Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker for the honour and initiative.
The Omanhen also used the occasion to caution the youth of Cape Coast against organising unpermitted floats and activities during the Fetu Afahye celebrations, particularly movements taking place after midnight without the necessary authorisation.
He warned that such activities are not permitted and urged the youth and organisers to respect the rules governing the festival.
Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II further cautioned that if such unpermitted floats occur again, he would order the police to arrest the organisers.
He called on the youth to celebrate the Fetu Afahye responsibly and in a manner that protects the peace, security and dignity of Oguaa.
The commissioning of the statue adds another landmark to Cape Coast and serves as a public recognition of Osabarimba Dr Kwesi Atta II’s leadership and service to the Oguaa Traditional Council.
